Resolved Question: Are there other sites similar to BBC iplayer where i can watch films online?

I live in the UK and like watching films. I have been a member of an online dvd rental company who send me films thru the post in return for a monthly subscription. I love watching films and am thinking of cancelling this service and downloading desktop bbc iplayer so that I can download films and watch them at my leisure without all the buffering problems. Trouble is, on bbc, there are only about 5-10 films at a time, not always one i want to watch. Are there other similar iplayers and sites where films can be watched. I like nearly all types of films, arty, action, hollywood and so on...perhaps especially world cinema.. your wonderful knowledge much appreciated! Thanks  more

Resolved Question: Whats your opinion on the successful impact of Nollywood in Sub-Saharan Africa?

Nollywood: Nigerian film industry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Nigeria It has been reported it's the third largest industry in the world based in Nigeria, watched by all black Africans(in Africa & overseas), a significant amount of Black West Indian/Caribbean people, Black Hispanics, and etc. It has been reported it beats Hollywood 10 fold in sub-Saharan Africa, what is your opinion on why is this the case: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/nigerias-nollywood-eclipsing-hollywood-in-africa-1974087.html http://www.channel5belize.com/archive_detail_story.php?story_id=26287 Do Africans watch Black Hollywood movies(african american movies) & Hollywood movies? What do Africans think about Hollywood movies in general. Also what do they think of the way Africa is portrayed in Hollywood in sometimes a negative light(war, starvation, corruption, disease)? What is your culture & what type of movies do you prefer Nollywood or Hollywood movies? What are your favorite Nollywood actors/actresses, and some of your favorite movies, and ones you are looking forward to see?  more

Resolved Question: I Was Deprived In My Teen Years, It Still Depresses Me?

As a child, I was happier. My parents took me to a lot of places and I was invited to a lot of birthday parties. I did go on a lot of school trips. I went to camps, day trips and fun days when I was in brownies. At the age of 11, I went to theatre school every Saturday because I wanted to be an actress. When I was 13 my dad stopped me, he wanted me to focus on my schoolwork and do extra work every weekends instead of socialising. Another thing was because I attended extra maths classes on Saturday morning, because I struggled with maths and it wasn't my fault because I am a slow learner. I also struggled with school work because I wasn't all that academic. Theatre school lessons didn't begin until the afternoon. When I started secondary school, I was happy and I had plenty of friends. When I was in second year, I befriended a girl who disliked my friend. That girl started being horrible to me and was calling me names like 'thick' and 'dumb'. She pinched all my friends and started singling me out. I was left with only one friend whom she also bullied. That girl didn't invite me to her parties and sleepovers. I didn't fit in with anyone because I was unattractive, didn't wear clothes in the latest fashion and had strict parents. I wasn't invited to parties or to go to the shopping mall. I had a couple of good friends, one of them invited me to her house, we went to the water park. In year 9 I was lonely because my friends were in different classes, I was stuck in a class full of wild teenagers and I wasn't one of them. They often bullied me. I didn't have a social life because of my strict parents, I was very depressed I thought of suicide. My dad and mum emotionally abused me, they called me 'stupid' and 'thick' because I struggled at school, my dad often hit me and compare me to people who were better than me. I use to daydream of being a hollywood actress living it large when I was at school and hope, I guess it was an escapism from the pain going on in my life. In Year 10 I wanted to take drama as a school subject, my mum and dad wouldn't allow me to take it, they said drama doesn't land you in a good job. The forced me to take History and Geography, as they said it is easy to pass. I wasn't allowed to take 'challenging' subjects like Business Studies. I did manage to patch up things with a couple of my friends in Year 10, they still befriended the bullies. I did still get teased. My dad told me that my cousin who is academic would do better than me. I still wasn't invited to parties and so forth. I only attended family parties and so forth. I only went shopping and to the cinema with my friend once in a while. My parents still didn't allow me to go to drama clubs, because they feel it would get in the way of my school work. I only attended the school disco once and the school leavers ceremony. I finished school with crap GCSE grades. When I started college at 16 years old, the first year was hell for me. Some of the girls in my class bullied me and singled me out in events. One dude in the class invited me to a couple of parties, I couldn't attend because of my strict parents and it was too far. In the second year it went well for me, I was put in a different class full of nice people. Parents were still strict and wasn't allowed to go attend clubs or go to parties. I only visited friends a couple of times. In the third year I met some really nice people, I attended a few of their parties (when I was 18 years old). When I was nineteen my mother became very strict, she still didn't allow me to attend parties or clubs because she was scared that something bad would happening to me. I was depressed because I was broke, didn't have much money to spend on new clothes. I would be fantasising of being a party girl. When I reached 21 I moved out and I loved my freedom. I went clubbing all the time, I was invited to a lot of parties. I did have a few enemies (thats normal) It still depresses me that I didn't attend drama club or theatre school. do normal teenage stuff like go to the cinema and shopping more regularly. I wasn't allowed to go to youth club and so forth. When I see happy beautiful teenagers going out with their friends, wearing nice gear or attending their proms. I get jealous and I wish it was me. I wish I was sixteen years old again, nothing I can do about it. I wanted to be that happy teen with no problems in life. I am 26 years old. My dad wanted me to be an A* student who would eventually become a doctor, lawyer, or an accountant.  more

Resolved Question: Do most people relate with their own race more easily?

I've watched a good deal of American cinema, both indie and mainstream, but have always felt Hong Kong and Korea do much better. Infernal Affairs, Crying Fist, and Oldboy were top noche films that I felt no American films I've seen has offered more depth and character. To get a sense the closest would be 3:10 to Yuma, Brick, or The Godfather for me. I've also read in a forum from a white person that Hollywood is the best cinema without competition, or American remakes are always better. Do Indians enjoy Bollywood the most? Is it facial expressions and traits that attract a person to an actor's performance?  more

Resolved Question: Would you be willing to sign a petition demanding Ms. Lohan's return to the silver screen?

My fellow Lindsay Lohan fans and I are contemplating creating a petition in the hope of gaining 10,000 signatures demanding that the talented, beautiful, intelligent, and moral Ms. Lindsay Lohan be featured as the star actress in an upcoming major Hollywood production. Is it not high time that Ms. Lindsay Lohan, the goddess of the cinema, be returned to her rightful place as Queen of the Matinee? These petitions would be sent to each major Hollywood studio and production company, and would force them to feature Ms. Lindsay Lohan in their next motion picture. Would you be willing to sign such a petition, and would you be willing to collect signatures for such a high and noble cause?  more

Resolved Question: Movie theater question.....?

Why am I forced to pay $8-10 to see a movie, and then have to sit through a half hour of commercials? I'm not talking about previews, I mean commercials for Coke and Verizon and body wash and cars and toothbrushes. Radio/TV is free, so they have to make money by selling ad time. Satellite radio charges a subscription so they don't have to sell ad time. Why does the cinema get to have it both ways? Not to mention the obscene prices at the snack bar. How does Hollywood expect to survive with these prices when folks can download the movie RIGHT NOW and watch it on my plasma screen and surround sound? I'm not talking about the slide-show type stuff on the screen when you're walking in. I mean the junk that plays between trailers. They say the movie starts at say, 8:30, but starting at 8:30 you have a half hour of commercials to sit through. You could arrive later, but good luck finding a seat at a popular movie. Yes, I know they're making money. But what do you think would happen if suddenly Netflix or XM Radio suddenly started forcing ads on you. They would probably lose a lot of business. If you're charging a cover or subscription, you shouldn't be whoring out ad space.  more

Resolved Question: should WWE change Raw to Monday Night MAG?

JBL is an American audio electronics company currently owned by Harman International. It was founded in 1946 by James Bullough Lansing. Their primary products are loudspeakers and associated electronics. There are two independent divisions within the company — JBL Consumer and JBL Professional. The former produces audio equipment for the home market while the latter produces professional equipment for the studio, installed sound, tour sound, portable sound (production and DJ), and cinema markets. [edit] History James B. Lansing founded JBL the year after leaving Altec Lansing as their Vice President of Engineering in 1945. The company was first called Lansing Sound, Incorporated, and dated from 1 October 1946 and then changed its name to James B. Lansing Sound. The first products model D101 15-inch loudspeaker and D175 The high frequency driver. The D175 remained in the JBL catalog through the 1970s. Both of these were near copies of Altec Lansing products. First original product was the D130, a 15-inch transducer for which a variant would remain in production for the next 55 years. The D130 featured a 4-inch flat ribbon wire voice coil and Alnico V magnet. Two other products were the 12-inch D131 and 8-inch D208 cone drivers. The Marquardt Corporation gave the company early manufacturing space and a modest investment. William H. Thomas, the treasurer of Marquardt Corporation, represented Marquardt on Lansing's Board of Directors. In 1948 Marquardt took over operation of the JBL. In 1949 Marquardt was purchased by General Tire Company. The new company was not interested in the loudspeaker business and severed ties with Mr. Lansing. The company was reincorporated as James B. Lansing, Incorporated, and moved to its first private location on 2439 Fletcher Drive, Los Angeles. A key to JBL's early development was Mr. Lansing's close business relationship with its primary supplier of Alnico V magnetic material, Robert Arnold of Arnold Engineering. Arnold Engineering extended favorable terms and deep credit to Mr. Lansing. Robert Arnold saw JBL as an opportunity to sell Alnico V magnetic material into a new market. James Lansing was noted as an innovative engineer, but a poor businessman. For the next 3 years Mr. Lansing struggled to pay invoices and ship product. As a result of deteriorating business conditions and personal issues, he took his own life on September 4, 1949. The company then passed into the hands of Bill Thomas, JBL's then vice-president. Mr. Lansing had taken out a $10,000 life insurance policy naming the company as the beneficiary. That allowed Mr. Thomas to continue the company after Mr. Lansing's death. Soon after, Mr. Thomas purchased Mrs. Lansing's one-third interest in the company and became the sole owner of the company. Mr. Thomas was responsible for revitalizing the company and spearheading a remarkable period of growth for the two decades following the founding of JBL[1]. Early products included the model 375 high frequency driver and the 075 UHF (Ultra High Frequency) ring radiator driver. The ring radiator drivers are also known as "JBL bullets" because of their distinctive shape. The 375 was a re-invention of the Western Electric 594 driver but with a Alnico V magnet and a 4-inch voice coil. The 375 shared the same basic magnet structure as the D-130 woofer. JBL engineers Ed May and Bart Locanthi created these designs.[2] Two products from that era, the Hartsfield and the Paragon, continue to be highly desired on the collectors market. In 1955 the brand name JBL was introduced to resolve ongoing disputes with Altec Lansing Corporation. The company name "James B. Lansing Sound, Incorporated" was retained, but the logo name was changed to JBL with the distinctive exclamation point logo.[3] The JBL 4320 series studio monitor was introduced through Capitol Records in Hollywood and became the standard monitor worldwide for its parent company, EMI. JBL's introduction to rock and roll music came via the adoption of the D130 loudspeaker by Leo Fender's Fender Guitar company as the ideal driver for electric guitars. In 1969, Bill Thomas sold JBL to the Jervis Corporation (later renamed Harman International) headed by Dr. Sidney Harman. The 1970s saw JBL become a household brand, starting with the famous L-100, which was the best-selling loudspeaker model of any company to that date. The 1970s also saw a major JBL expansion in the professional audio field from their studio monitors. By the end of the decade recording studios in the United States used more JBL monitors than all other brands combined. The JBL L-100 and 4310 control monitors were noteworthy, popular home speakers. In the 1980's the L-100, 4312 and others were updated with aquaplas-laminated midrange and woofer drivers, and a titanium-deposited tweeter diaphragm, the new designations being the L-80T, L-100T, L-120T and the flagship L-250ti. Resolved Question: MAG vs Jesus Christ who would win?

Resolved Question: Do you think HOLLYWOOD STIGMATIZES some NAMES. 10 POINTS?

In my opinion, the cinema industry are stigmatizing some names especially female names. They are offering an specific name's stereotype by their convenience. For example, names like Kelly, Tiffany, Jessica, Ashley or Jennifer are often seen as "dirty girls" names by fault of the movie industry (and they are different kinds of girls with these names). Why Hollywood doesn't show the image of an Ashley being the mother of nine kids and a hard worker & not only of a man eater? Why the media always associates the female name Britney with a stripper or an slut?. Some Hollywood attitudes about names are sometimes offensive to many people especially women. Do you think HOLLYWOOD STIGMATIZES NAMES? I NEED YOUR OPINION, please ! 10 POINTS !! Thanks !!  more

I went to the cinema the other day to watch "The happening" and everybody there noticed a hanging microphone being in the picture for almost 10 seconds. How is it possible in a big Hollywood production like this, for these kind of big mistakes to be allowed to go uncorrected???  more

Resolved Question: What has gone wrong with hollywood horror?

I've not seen a Hollywood horror film in about 10 years (I think the 6th sense was the last truly spooky US film I saw) which comes close to being called eerie, certainly none have been chilling. It seems that directors have forgotten how to create suspense, play with lighting and camera angles. I think that this is largely because the reliance on computer graphics has allowed people to not concentrate on the art of cinema. The studios wanting a guaranteed hit (and marketable to younger audiences) only serves to make horror films more limp. What do you think is wrong with these films? What do you think is missing from modern vampire, werewolf or other horror films?  more

Resolved Question: Why aren't there any good movies worth watching these days?

I'm a movie enthusiast. I love watching movies and I go to my local cinema 2-3 times every week. I even have this stupid habit called "movie hopping" wherein I "hop" between malls and cinemas, watching different movies; all in one day. Recently, there hasn't been much of a "look forward to" movie(s) coming out except The Dark Knight and Get Smart (I love Steve Carell and the Office). 10,000 B.C. is out but something inside me just tells me not to watch it. (Sure, it happened 12,008 years ago... what about it? Besides, were there already societies that large during that time?) Aaaah! Is Hollywood running out of ideas? Is this the sign of the Apocalypse?! NOOOO!!!!  more

Resolved Question: What does this government and Hollywood expect?

I can make a film in a case for £0.25p, for my own use, I wouldn't sell them (cough cough) sometimes before they are out at the cinema So i can make them for 25p, so the film makers can do it much much cheaper I'm sure, and they charge £10 - £20 for the same films!!!! Isn't it time we stood up for ourselves in this country and said enough is enough, we are not going to be ripped off anymore??? If they made each DVD's lets say a Fiver with the extra's we would not have to get pirate copies at all. We are being ripped off everywhere, and now even household bills are going up far more than inflation!! They introduce the minimum wage, yet everything is now surpassing that  more

Resolved Question: who is the greatest actor of all time? Amitabh Bachan i think?

a lot of people may not of heard of amitabh bachan, but believe me he is an absolute legend. he is the biggest thing to come out of bollywood ever. bollywood is a much bigger movie industry than hollywood and has a much bigger fan base world wide. 10% of the world's population might know al pacino or marlon brando, but at least 40% will know and heard of amitabh bachan. such films like sholay will never be forgotten, so original and unsurpassed. ran in indian cinemas for a record 14years in a row. it makes ET and titanic look like a steven seagal film i.e awful. if you've heard of him then please answer the question and if you do which film do you think was his best???  more
