Saturday, July 10: FESTIVAL | Afrofest If you've never visited Afrofest, you're missing out on a great Toronto tradition. The city's annual celebration of African culture takes over Queen's Park this weekend, boasting an unparalleled roster of African musicians including Zimbabwe's "Rebel Woman" Chiwoniso , Congolese songwriter JP Buse , Cameroon-Canadian world beat all-star Muna Mingole , and the Occidental Brothers Dance Band International . The festival is a great way to spend a hazy summer weekend, whether you want to dance along to some happy grooves at the crowded concert stage, sample delicious African cuisine washed down with a cold brew, or just wile away the day kicking a soccer ball around the park. Queen's Park, Free, Saturday and Sunday 1 pm - 11 pm GALLERY | loadbang The Butcher Gallery on Queen East has dedicated itself to the ambitious project of transposing online and virtual art from the screen and into real-life three dimensional space. The gallery's sexy new exhibition loadbang isn't the first attempt to turn online erotica into reality (men have been trying that since the days of Web 1.0), but these artists have more on their minds than logging on and getting off. Projections of randomized videos, collected as a response to the curator's open call for trashy videos inspired by the internet, prompt the audience to consider how webcams, avatars and porn affect our expectations in art and life. At 9 pm Ann Hirsch w ...

National Cinema Center of Armenia and... Constitutional Court
Source: unzipped.blogspot.com --- Thursday, July 08, 2010
As a big film fan, I am all excited with the launch of “promising” cinema related online projects. And it was with the excitement that I started exploring the website for the national cinema Center of Armenia. Boy, I was in for a surprise. Have a look at this screenshot and remember which website you are looking at. Spotted anything bizarre or unusual for the occasion? I thought so too. Why on earth under the Links section are links... to the president’s, parliament’s, government’s and constitutional court’s (!) websites is beyond me. I understand that the website is still ‘under construction’. But would not you expect to see cinema and art related links when you enter the national cinema Center of Armenia? You would not necessarily search for the Constitutional Court of Armenia there, would you? Interestingly, they were in such a hurry to put those websites in, that they forgot the most relevant one - Ministry of Culture’s. Oh my... ...

Image from Samson and Delilah ( Warwick Thornton , 2009 ) Film Studies For Free presents its whopping and interdisciplinary list of scholarly links to online and openly accessible studies of one of its favourite national cinemas, that of Australia. A passable effort for a Pom website, it hopes you agree. Resolved Question: Does it sound like he likes me?
Just to start it off, i'll tell you that i'm 14 :] while i was on a school trip to France i met some great people from my school, that i thought i would never get to know. One of them was this boy that's in the year above me. I knew who he was before, had him as a friend on facebook, but would never of spoken to him before cause to me he was just another year 10 boy (he's 15). Anyway, while on the trip we got on really well. We came back & started chatting one night on facebook, while we were chatting (just about random stuff & the trip) he asked for my number, so i gave it him & he gave me his. He then texted me the one day & we ended up sending A LOT of texts to each other over about 1 week. (Just to tell you, at the end of the text he puts about 4 kisses 'xxxx'). We haven't texted each other in a while, but we've spoken on facebook. The other night i was just chatting to him & asking out of interest just for a conversation what he was doing on our half day. He told me & ask me the same question back, and i told him. On that half day i'm going out to the cinema with my friend & 2 boys that we met on the France trip (they go to our school by the way), one of them 'apparently' likes me, but i've heard it off so many people now that i'm starting to believe it. This boy that i was talking to (I'll call him '#') said to me: #- " he loves you don't he :L " me- " i hope not, everyone keeps saying that but i don't like him in that way" # - " so you don't like him"? me - "no, not in a like like way, but as a person he's alright." #- " who do you like?" me- " in what way? " # - "who do you think is fit that went on the trip?" me - " :L boys aways have to ask this dont they ;] ummm, your alright & ______ alright, you?" # - "good choice ;] your fit & ________ ent bad either " & then we just started talking randomly again. I know that that conversation might not sound like he 'likes' me. He's also said i'm 'pretty' & 'gorgeous' a couple of times, or agreed with people that have said that & that's made me feel really happy cause he's the first boy that i sort of like that's said that :] & the once, he texted me saying something like "did you know its national kiss day today? :P ". I see him at school but we're in different groups, like we hang out with different people. I'm not planning on going over to him either because that would be weird, but i was thinking if i see him around school then i'll say hi, but i haven't yet :[ Does it sound like he likes me? I'm starting to REALLY like him, but it's coming up to the summer holidays so i'm not going to see him for like 5 weeks :'[ & my mom & her boyfriend have both said that it sounds like he likes me, but i'm not sure. thanks, & no horrible answers please :] I know who his friends are cause some of them went on the same trip & they were some that i got to know well :] When he asked me who i like though, he meant who i thought was fit, not who you fancied or whatever. I asked him who he thought was fit aswell & he said me :] P.S - I don't want to ask him out because i'm not 100% sure he likes me. If i was told by his friend or by him even, that he liked me, then i might ask him out. moreResolved Question: What do you think about my personal statement....?
I want to study literature.... For as long as I can remember I have been intrigued and beguiled by the written word. Transfixed by children’s prose, I found who I was in the hours I spent curled up reading. But the person I discovered myself to be had an enthusiasm and deep vitality that was satisfied by not only the words on the page; but what they meant and what the “words” created. The way that words could be used in poetry truly fascinated me. In June I entered a poem that I had written into a national poetry anthology contest, and received highly commended runner up. But, what really illustrates my passion is the way that the written word becomes the spoken word. Plays, scripts and even the language used in every day conversations stimulate my imagination. I’m currently a member of a literary phenomenon;” bugged” based around the poetry of overheard conversations. My dramatic experience includes performing in;” The Miracle” by Lin Coghlan at theatre Clwyd, “Ride” a composition piece of epic theatre by “ATYT”, “Scratches in the earth” A collectively written, outdoor promenade performance, and “Generations” an intergenerational project for young and older people by Kevin Dyer at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall. But as well as performing in theatre I try to watch the theatre as often as I can and have seen a range of plays and look forward to attending Edinburgh festival this summer. I also enjoy reading scripts, from classic as well as modern playwrights. Recently I have written my own play, which has been commissioned by Action Transport Theatre and is being debuted at Chester literature festival. I am also a member of the everyman young writer’s programme which has given me the opportunity to attend writing workshops and speak to people that share my passion for theatre. Personally, I do not believe that theatre should be seen as superior or inferior to film. I understand that both media have different benefits, as with all styles of literature and English. As well as organising trips to the theatre and promoting theatre I am currently the chairman of the film appreciation society at my school. I am organising a Catholic High School presentation of films that students have made. I have independently created an abstract film that was showcased at Screen Deva Chester film festival and a music video that was shown at Ellesmere Port Film Festival, presently I am working on a documentary for Ellesmere Port Film festival and a Columbian film festival, and incorporating both film and theatre in a documentary based around theatre as part of my extended project. This summer I am volunteering at Lourdes, and inspired by the film “Lourdes” directed by Jessica Hausner, hope to do produce some footage on my day off. I am eager to create films but also take pleasure from watching films. I am lucky enough to live near “FACT” cinema, where I have the opportunity to watch independent as well as blockbuster movies, affordably, however I also have my own vast DVD collection of films and a passion for foreign films and exploring different cultures. My favourite thing about film and literature is that it is always changing. At A level I am studying English Language, which has given me a new insight into the change of language which has helped me in my literature as I have the opportunity to explore old English texts and analysing a timeline of texts that progress to very modern content, through language and technology. This has also shown me the relation of language and society and helped me to consider contextual factors within my literature studies. My understanding of this and of the acquisition of language has also helped me to create and hear realism of voices in plays and films. history has also given me analytical skills that I feel will allow me to explore different readings of film and literature by annotating sources and further reading as well as a further contextual knowledge that I feel is vital within literature and film as both explore different times and cultures. My study of business has given me practical skills concerning the way that society is shaped outside of academia and further reading to expand my background knowledge of a subject I had never studied before. Furthermore a key feature within business lessons has been to find and present areas of business that interest you personally. I have improved my presentational skills through a business dynamics programme and volunteering at tomorrow’s manager’s today events. I am passionate about public speaking and having my own voice heard whether it be through the newspaper that I produce in my sixth form, fictional writing or public speaking. I was awarded second place at the national public speaking competition held in Liverpool May 2010. Studying English Literature really accumulates everything I study elsewhere, Everything I know of my self, and everything I want to learn. This is why I wish to continue it at university. At A level I have learnt the moreResolved Question: Do you think this is unfair?
me and 5 of my friends travelled by train to our nearest city to watch a film at the cinema, we had been looking forward to it for weeks and it was a celebration trip to celebrate finishing our GCSEs. we are all 16 so all bought adult train tickets (which cost £3 more) we then walked up to the cinema to watch the film which was a 15 and we were told we needed a form of ID we explained to them that if we were younger than 15 we would be at school as it was a wednesday and offered to show them our adult train tickets but they would not accept this so we ran to the other cinema on the other side of the city (I mean we were in the right and we really wanted to watch this film) we were able to purchase the ticket and bought a load of drinks, crisps and sweets to enjoy while watching the film. we were then told we needed a form of ID we explained to them once more about the school and showed them our adult train tickets and national insurance cards (which you can't get until you are 15) but they wouldn't accept these as forms of ID claiming we could have stolen them off someone. we asked them what ID they would accept and they said a driving licence or passport but we explained to them that this would not be possible as we don't travel abroad and can drive until next year. are tickets were refunded but we had all spent £10 - £15 on train tickets and food and had to leave disappointed. we all felt discriminated against because we all look our age and there is no possible way of proving our age. moreResolved Question: Any similar indie bands pleaaase?

I went to National College in Bristol, Tennessee. I have never seen so many idiot running one place. First off, they LITERALLY suckered me into going there. They told me my credits would be transferable (and DID NOT mention that no schools would actually accept them) 90% of the time I was in classes, we watched movies. NOT educational movies, but actual like, new cinema, movies!!! They barely go over anything in the classes and when they give tests the READ THE ACTUAL TEST TO YOU and let you copy it down so you can study it!!! They did my financial aid wrong the first time they did it, the second time they did it they forgot to do something and my financial aid wasnt actually set up until 2 weeks after I started classes! They have charged things to my student account that I TOLD them to take off (such as a scrubs uniform that i told them twice i didn't need). I NEVER got my student ID. I had to drive there yesterday to ask about the charges to my account because NO ONE would answer the phone. When I got there the woman at the front desk was reading a magazine as I stood a FOOT from her desk. She FINISHED WAT SHE WAS READING and THEN asked me what I needed. I told her I needed to talk to someone in financial aid and she said, "you will just have to walk back there and see if anyone is available." I was like WTF?! So i went back and the woman i talked to treated me like $hit! was RUDE as can be, and has STILL not taken the charge off of my account. The DEAN of the school (who LITERALLY looks like death) YELLED at us (the students) like we were in kindergarden because we were talking. I mean, it was a dress for success presentation and she looked just discusting. That was just about the last straw for me. I didn't go to COLLEGE to be treated like an INFANT. There's more, but I dont want to make this a freakin novel. Anyways, is there any places out there that deals with these issues? Like some kind of agency that would look into these issues? Thanks. EDIT: I have LEFT that college and will NEVER go back. EVER. Another issue was I SIGNED the papers saying I WAS NOT coming back (along with my boyfriend at the SAME EXACT TIME) and they charged his account for another semester!!! moreResolved Question: What can I do to improve my chances at NYU/Northwestern University/University of Chicago?

California embraces innovation in the Silicon Valley/Palo Alto region California education speaks for itself: Stanford, Cal Tech, UC Berkeley, lots of top schools California has more consumer protection laws than any other state, also employee protections such as if you are being background searched for drugs, you do not have to reveal if you some marijuana you can smoke marijuana for medicinal purposes in California California has a near perfect moderate climate where you don't need corporate utilities (A/C - Central heating to survive) you can grow your own grapes in California and live on a vineyard and love the land itself In California, if bored, you can take a drive up Pacific Highway on a sunset and leave all your troubles behind. I see more of the spirit of freedom and the American dream in California than I ever hear from USA Conservatives. why is this? and California has an amazing melting pot of Mexicans and Asians and Liberals and fruits and nuts California's budget is in good hands in Sacramento moreResolved Question: Not that there is a war or two going on right now or anything?
40 years ago today, four Kent State college students protesting the Vietnam War were gunned down by National Guard troops. The “Kent State Massacre” had far reaching implications. Just ten days later, two student protesters were shot by police at Jackson State, a traditionally black school in Mississippi. It is no big secret that the Nixon Administration hoped to stamp out the anti-war movement with the threat of violence. It has also been speculated the COINTELPRO agents provocateur turned what was supposed to be a peaceful demonstration into a violent spectacle in which campus buildings were set ablaze. When you consider all the other crimes committed by the Nixon Administration, these theories aren’t so hard to fathom. Nixon’s strategy backfired, as many consider the Kent State Massacre to be what finally turned the mainstream citizen against the war in Vietnam. Universities around the nation held demonstrations in the wake of the killings, as the visual of impact of soldiers firing upon unarmed college students had a profoundly disturbing effect on even the most conservative American. Presently, the Kent State campus is pockmarked with various memorials and reminders of that tragic day. However, according to the New York Times, present day students feel very little connection to what occurred there. Fourteen of 15 freshmen interviewed on the campus said they did not feel any connection with the lives of the students who were protesting the United States’ invasion of Cambodia at the time. Is the present generation of college students so self absorbed with junk food, junk music, junk cinema, and junk video games that they’ve never had any reason to develop a sense of ethics or empathy? Have today’s youth been beaten down so badly by the thieving banks, rapacious corporations, corrupt governance, perverse and hypocritical churches, lying and polarized media, and brain dead institutions of higher learning that they’ve lost the ability to feel and think critically? Maybe they don’t know war is wrong. Without a draft, without a peace movement, without a responsible and fair media, what should we expect? War is but a virtual concept that appears as “Call Of Duty” on their computer monitor. Where is the punk rock, the hip hop, the street poetry that challenges the status quo? Where is the heartache? Where is the anger? Where is the will to do anything about it? I’m afraid our present culture has succeeded where Nixon failed. This generation wasn’t brought down by fear and intimidation; it was brought down by a steady diet of high fructose corn syrup, internet porn, and the Jersey Shore. Kids today are like battered Stepford wives in the grip of Stockholm syndrome. Well, on the upside, at least we don’t have to worry about any demonstrations getting out of hand. TO FORGET WOULD BE TO FORGIVE................................. Srinagar, January 4, 1990. Aftab, a local Urdu newspaper, publishes a Press release issued by Hizb-ul Mujahideen, set up by the Jamaat-e-Islami in 1989 to wage jihad for Jammu & Kashmir’s secession from India and accession to Pakistan, asking all Hindus to pack up and leave. Another local paper, Al Safa, repeats this expulsion order. In the following days, there is near chaos in the Kashmir Valley with Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah and his National Conference Government abdicating all responsibilities. Masked men run amok, waving Kalashnikovs, shooting to kill and shouting anti-India slogans. Walls are plastered with posters and handbills, summarily ordering all Kashmiris to strictly follow the Islamic dress code, prohibiting the sale and consumption of alcoholic drinks and imposing a ban on video parlours and cinemas. The masked men with Kalashnikovs force people to re-set their watches and clocks to Pakistan Standard Time. Shops, business establishments and homes of Kashmiri Pandits, the original inhabitants of the Kashmir Valley with a recorded cultural and civilisational history dating back 5,000 years, are marked out. As evening falls, the exhortations become louder and shriller. Three taped slogans are repeatedly played the whole night from mosques: ‘Kashmir mei agar rehna hai, Allah-o-Akbar kehna hai’ (If you want to stay in Kashmir, you have to say Allah-o-Akbar); ‘Yahan kya chalega, Nizam-e-Mustafa’ (What do we want here? Rule of Sharia’h); ‘Asi gachchi Pakistan, Batao roas te Batanev san’ (We want Pakistan along with Hindu women but without their men). In the preceding months, 300 Hindu men and women, nearly all of them Kashmiri Pandits, had been slaughtered ever since the brutal murder of noted lawyer Pandit Tika Lal Taploo by the JKLF in Srinagar on September 14, 1989. Soon after that, Justice NK Ganju of the Srinagar High Court was shot dead. Pandit Sarwanand Premi, 80-year-old poet, and his son were kidnapped, tortured, their eyes gouged out, and hanged to death. A Kashmiri Pandit nurse working at the Soura Medical College Hospital in Srinagar was gang-raped and then beaten to death. Another woman was abducted, raped and sliced into pieces at a saw mill In villages and towns across the valley, terrorist hit lists have been floating about. All the names are of Pandits. With no Government worth its name, the administration having collapsed, the police nowhere to be seen, despondency sets in. As the night of January 19, 1990, wears itself out, despondency gives way to desperation. And tens of thousands of Kashmiri Pandits across the valley take a painful decision: To flee their homeland to save their lives. Thus takes place a 20th century Exodus. * * * http://kanchangupta.blogspot.com/2010/01… क्या हम कश्मीरी हिन्दुओं के नरसंहार को भूल गए हैं ? http://kanchangupta.blogspot.com/2010/01/to-forget-would-be-to-forgive.html http://kanchangupta.blogspot.com/2010/01/to-forget-would-be-to-forgive.html moreResolved Question: AMITABH BACHCHAN, The GOD of Indian Cinema......................?

Drive in Movie Theaters Innovations Projection Booth Outdoor Screen Concession stand Large Parking Area A drive-in movie theater is a form of cinema structure that includes a large projection screen for outdoor use, a projection booth, a concession stand and a large parking area for automobiles (cars, trucks, etc). How is it an innovation? The drive-in movie theater was the start of drive thru services. At the drive-in theater, you can sit down and watch a movie in the comfort of your own cart. At some drive-in’s, people would take your order and bring you back refreshments and such from the concession stand. The way you would watch a movie to at the drive-in would be that you drive into the large parking area, and park in front of a large screen, most likely at night so that you could see the large outdoor screen. On the opposing side of the large outdoor screen, would be the projection booth. The projection booth is so the picture would be projected onto the screen for the customer’s satisfaction. moreResolved Question: Under 16 national health insurance number?

To homemaker: I agree with you in only one point.i.e about 80'sdirectors! But i cant agree with your point about Rahman! Rahman 90's music is superb! You cant underestimate a legend like Rahman for because if you are a illayara fan! I always see the burning fire in your stomach for Rahman over taking illayaraja!please try to mature in your points if you speak about Rahman! To homemaker and bull: i accept everything except about Rahman! But my question is about 90's and todays cinema! But why you are trying to answer yourself for 80's and 90's cinema! I accept that 80's cinema is good and also 90's too.but todays cinema going very worse! You said in 90's only mani sir movies are worth. Of course, mani sir is legend and good but in my list how could you say indian and mudhulvan could be bad?! My question is about very general but why are you trying to underestimate Rahman in this question! Try to respect other views! Please learn that!!! Motive of my question is to know the fact of todays cinemas to younger generations but again you come for debate with me! moreResolved Question: Do you think that we live in an unfair ''Americanized" world?
I will make it clear,i have nothing against Americans,i am a European man and i know my history very good, and i know that 75% of Americans or so are of European origin as well, so how i could hate my own people! But the last 60 years i believe that USA has rape the world and i am 100% sane making this statement! I will not mention wars and politics, because many people have lost lifes from both sides (Americans and whoever the target is each time) and these subjects are so sensitive, but i will mention some "lighter" things that the American propaganda and unfairness is more than obvious! Show Biz They call awards as Oscars-Grammies-Emmys etc etc Worldwide awards, when in 95% of the cases they award only Americans and do not tell me Europe and Asia or Australia do not have great artists or actors because it is redicilous !They ignore at least 90% of worldwide cinema and music and they consider it trash (from my experience with Americans i talked with) Sports Wow,here the injustice is so obvious that a blind man can see it,Sports Illustrated "DARED" to name top 100 athletes OF THE WORLD not USA and 97 Americans (from the continent no just USA) made the list and only 2 Euros and 1 Asian, when Euros for a fact have produce way more champions in way more sports than Americans (Europe has near 11 thousand medals in Olympics and Americas a little over 3 thousand)To close this,Football/Soccer is number 1 worldwide and the poll had only 1 soccer player, but 56 players of THE WORLD were baseball and NFL that are national sports right? lol! To close this,Obama won Nobel Prize for Peace and still nobody can tell why he did lol! Any thoughts? Jack K we sure do not like your sports or athletes and football/soccer is the proof! Nobody likes American football worldwide and baseball got banned from Olympics because of no tickets and low ratings but Americans force us to accept that your athletes are the best while they are not in most of the cases! As for movies, some are good, same with music, but look how classical music or 80's and 60's was so European and is so popular in USA,look how USA takes best scientists and doctors from all over the world,so you love a lot of internationa stuff as well, this is not my question though! You probably did not get the question! moreResolved Question: Please have a look at my resume for grammatical mistakes?

what does "epic account of the Turkmen nation" mean? Niyazov attached such importance to his own epic account of the Turkmen nation that questions on the text appeared in the national driving test. the whole text:( "epic account" is in the last sentence) In the case of Turkmenistan, the search became a consuming malaise. In 2000 its late president, Saparmurat Niyazov, who liked to call himself “Father of the Turkmens”, changed the names of the months, calling April after his mother. He also replaced cinemas with puppet theatres, which apparently are more authentically Turkmen. Niyazov attached such importance to his own epic account of the Turkmen nation that questions on the text appeared in the national driving test. moreResolved Question: US of A- what is the most important thing in life?

Didn't got an animation degree for that... Can someone help please? is this a true bennefit or is my friend making it up? moreResolved Question: Why won't the CIA leave Iran alone?
Visiting Iran last year to cover parliamentary elections, a journalist discovered a country utterly at odds with most of its depictions. He found himself discussing the sociologist Durkheim with a classical record producer in a cinema-cafe and debating the political situation in Iraq's Shia holy cities with a conservative mosque guard in southern Tehran. He sat with artists drinking bootleg vodka at a party and discussed the limits of personal freedom over the Islamic dress code with a liberal but headscarf-wearing teacher. Even the attitudes among supporters of President Ahmadinejad, whom he encountered in the countryside, were complex, confounding what he thought he knew. Iran, you see, makes a mockery of how the west would like to frame its reality. Which makes reading many of the views expressed in the west during Iran's election crisis often baffling - I have struggled to recognise the place depicted. It is worrying, because if I have learnt a single thing from the last 15 years covering international crises, it is how simplified or distorted depictions of events are more easily established as given truths than challenged. And how dangerously, as Iraq made clear, those false images feed into the decision-making processes of western governments. In the case of Iran, what has been visible in the west has been two competing versions of the country, coloured by political imagination and appropriated by the two rival - and confrontational - camps that have dominated our debate on foreign affairs since 11 September and the invasion of Iraq. Parties to a new cold war of ideas, their narrow and mutually antagonistic positions have reinterpreted each emerging international crisis to suit their own agenda and in defiance of the other's. Iran has long been on the radar screen of U.S. Intelligence agencies after the Iranian Revolution toppled the former Shah of Iran who was useful to the U.S. Former Pakistani Army General Mirza Aslam Beig claims the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has distributed 400 million dollars inside Iran to evoke a revolution. The ongoing turmoil throughout Iran is a result of deliberate destabilization efforts conducted by the US Central Intelligence Agency. Operating under an operation code named "Restore a Shah" the CIA has been quietly funneling tens of millions of dollars to activists throughout Iran in order to intentionally foment the tumultuous protests being seen in that country since their recent national election. The goal of the CIA: Topple the Iranian government and install another government which will be more secular and friendly to the U.S. moreResolved Question: Are u Upset about they way Africa is portrayed on TV (USA,UK)?
With all this Comic Relief, yes, i know, they are starving orphaned children in africa, and extreme poverty, no electricity, terrible living conditions and such, but not all of Africa is like this. When Africa is mentioned on TV, they always show the poor side of it, but totally exclude the Beautiful parts of Africa where it is very rich in Tourism and Hospitality,Thriving Marketing,Music,Film(bigger than Hollywood) and Fashion Industry, incredible national sports events, many affluent families living in suburban cities, wonderful private and public schools, thrilling night life and western comforts like Shopping malls (better than west-field), arcades, cinemas, bowling and ice-skating arenas.
